Throughout my academic career, teaching has been a passion and a central focus. I’ve taught a diverse range of biology courses ranging from introductory classes for non-majors to higher level courses like writing intensive Marine Biology and Comparative Anatomy. Through these experiences, I’ve found that fostering a collaborative and active learning environment is key to student success.
Outside the classroom, my research focused on the evolution and genetics of fish, looking at their relationships and gene expression. This work has allowed me to work with fish from across North America, from the endoreic springs of Nevada to the estuaries and marshes of Florida's coast. The diversity and adaptability of fish—over 30,000 species and counting—continues to intrigue me, and have fascinated me since my early days as an aquarist. I continue to maintain aquaria on ÍøÆسԹÏ's campus as an outreach tool for students to see what sparked my own passion.
